Rock samples-typically cores or individual grab samples, require processing before they can be used for mineral analysis by either PLM (Polarizing Light Microscope), Microprobe or Scanning Electron Microscope/X-ray Microanalysis. The Mineral Separation Facility is located in Jaeger 6 Building (Bldg 61). This facility provide material preparation for researchers and students as well as external clients.

The Mineral Separation Facility comprises of a mineral separation laboratory performing high purity mineral separations, a rock crushing laboratory for minsep preparation and preparation of powders for geochemical analysis and a lapidary workshop for the preparation and polishing of probe mounts.
